Replacement Windows In Topsfield
The white steeple over the Topsfield common appears on countless postcards, and the town behind it is old. English settlers were here by 1643, and Topsfield was incorporated in 1650. The Window Source NH replaces windows and doors across town. Topsfield is about 28 minutes and 20.9 miles from our shop in Seabrook.
An Old Farming Town
The first settlers called the place New Meadows. Tradition held that the Agawam called it Shenewemedy, “the pleasant place by the flowing waters.” Historians now think that word was simply how the Agawam said New Meadows. The General Court renamed it Topsfield in 1648, after Toppesfield in England.
The town stayed small and agrarian, with only 773 residents by 1776. Even so, two militia companies of 110 Minute Men marched from Topsfield to answer the Lexington Alarm in 1775. Robert Smith settled here in 1638, and his descendant Joseph Smith Sr. was born in Topsfield in 1771.
In 1684 the town hired the Reverend Joseph Capen. His Parson Capen House still stands as Topsfield’s most notable landmark. A successor to Capen’s original church building still overlooks the common. In 1805 the Newburyport Turnpike opened through town, with one of its tollhouses in Topsfield.
Windows That Respect An Old House
If you own one of Topsfield’s older homes, the face of each window matters. Wide, flat sash can make a house look newer than it should. A contoured, beveled sash and colonial grids keep the traditional look.
Some owners of older homes want warmth as much as looks. The triple-pane Harvey Homerun is a custom-built Harvey, so it is made to fit your openings.
If your home is newer, the choice usually comes down to efficiency and budget. The Gentek Series 3000 is the budget pick, and the Classic is our best seller. Either way, we measure every opening and talk through the options before you spend a dollar.
