Replacement Windows In Manchester
Manchester grew up around Amoskeag Falls and the mills that lined the Merrimack River. Today it is the most populous city in New Hampshire. We are The Window Source NH, a family-owned replacement window and door company. Our shop at 779 Lafayette Road in Seabrook is about 53 minutes and 39.9 miles from Manchester. Our own local crew handles every job.
Mill Town Houses And Streetcar Suburbs
In 1838, Amoskeag engineers and architects planned a model company town on the east bank. Elm Street was its main street. The mills drew a flood of workers, many of them French Canadian. Many families in the city today descend from them.
Through the late 1800s and early 1900s, Manchester spread outward. Streetcar suburbs such as Mast Road were built in those years. The wealth of the mill years left the city with some of the finest Victorian architecture in the state, homes included.
That history shows in the neighborhoods. On the West Side there are Rimmon Heights, Notre Dame/McGregorville and Piscataquog, known locally as Piscat. On the East Side there are the North End, Hallsville, Bakersville and Janeville. Youngsville and Goffes Falls sit toward the edges of the city. Even the Millyard now has apartments.
Matching The Window To The House
A Victorian house deserves windows that respect its proportions. Tall openings look wrong with chunky frames or the wrong grid pattern. A plainer house from the streetcar years may care more about drafts and easy cleaning than about trim details.
Homes with a view of Massabesic Lake or the Piscataquog River are a different case. There, more glass and a slimmer frame can matter as much as anything else.
Here is how we usually match them. Prices are installed, for a white double hung with basic installation. Grids and colors add.
- Harvey Classic, from $617 installed: our best seller, with fusion-welded frames, double-strength glass and a .24 U-value. A sound choice for most rooms.
- Harvey Tribute, from $683 installed: contoured, beveled sash and hidden tilt latches for a traditional look, with a .25 U-value. Pair it with colonial grids on an older facade.
- Harvey Slimline, from $545 installed: a slim welded frame that shows more glass, with a .29 U-value. Good where the view is the point.
- Gentek Series 3000, from $587 installed: a foam-insulated frame, double-strength glass and a .28 U-value.
