Replacement Windows In Nahant
Nahant is the smallest town in Massachusetts by land area, and more than nine tenths of its total area is water. The Window Source NH makes the drive out Nahant Road to replace windows and doors here. It is about 56 minutes and 38.1 miles from our shop in Seabrook. Our own local crew measures, orders and installs every window.
Living Surrounded By Water
Nahant sits on a peninsula of two near-islands, Little Nahant and Big Nahant, tied to Lynn by a sandy isthmus. Nahant Bay lies to the east, Nahant Harbor to the south and Lynn Harbor to the west. Ten beaches line the shore, including Long Beach and Short Beach.
A house here is never far from open water. It takes the wind and the salt air that come with that, in every season.
Windows on a house like that work hard. Tight seals, sturdy frames and efficient glass help keep a seaside room comfortable in January. They also let you enjoy the view without feeling the draft.
A Summer Resort With A Long Memory
Before 1800, there were only three homes on Nahant. The first hotel opened in 1802, and by 1817 a steamboat ran daily from Boston. By the late 19th century, Nahant was a summer retreat for the wealthy, including the poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
The geologist Louis Agassiz lived here, and the painter William Stanley Haseltine made many versions of The Rocks at Nahant. During World War II, East Point held a coastal artillery battery. It is now a town park and home to Northeastern University’s Marine Science Center.
Nahant became its own town in 1853. Today it is primarily residential. The most densely settled part runs along the west side, between Black Rock Point and Bass Point. If your house has a traditional face, new windows should respect it.
