Replacement Windows In Salem
Salem has some of the oldest houses in America and the only intact waterfront left from the U.S. age of sail. Our shop at 779 Lafayette Road in Seabrook is about 43 minutes and 30.5 miles from Salem. The Window Source NH is a family-owned replacement window and door company. Our own local crew measures, orders and installs every window.
A Seaport City Full Of Old Houses
English colonists settled Salem in 1626, and it grew into one of the most important trading seaports in early America. That trade built houses that still line its streets. Many grand mansions on Chestnut Street trace their roots to the Old China Trade.
Samuel McIntire, one of the first American architects, did much of his Federal-style work here. Hamilton Hall, built in 1805, and the Peirce-Nichols House are both his. The district named for him is one of the largest concentrations of 17th and 18th century houses in the country. Older still are the Pickman House and the Gedney House, both from the 1660s. The House of the Seven Gables dates to 1668, and the Witch House, home of Jonathan Corwin, to about 1642.
Salem is a city of water, too. It lies between Salem Harbor and Beverly Harbor, and its neighborhoods are shaped by Salem Neck, Collins Cove and the North River. South Salem runs along the banks of Salem Harbor, and North Salem sits west of Salem Neck across the North River. A house near the harbor gets salt air and wind off the bay. A house in the Federal Street District needs windows that respect its age. Some homes need both.
