Replacement Windows In Manchester-by-the-Sea
Manchester-by-the-Sea sits on the southern side of Cape Ann, where the peninsula meets the mainland. Almost half the town’s area is water, and seven beaches line its coast. Our shop at 779 Lafayette Road in Seabrook is about 49 minutes and 35.9 miles away. The Window Source NH is family owned, and our own local crew measures, orders and installs every window.
Fishing Town, Then Summer Colony
The town went by plain Manchester until 1989. That year a town meeting voted 97 to 95 to make the longer name official, to end confusion with Manchester, New Hampshire. Boston publisher James T. Fields had used “Manchester by the Sea” as early as 1877.
English colonists settled here in 1629, and the town was incorporated in 1645. For more than 200 years it lived mainly on fishing. Then, starting in 1845, Boston families began to build summer houses here.
Over the next fifty years the coastline filled with architect-designed “summer cottages.” The best known, Kragsyde, was completed in 1885 and hailed as a high point of the Shingle style. It was demolished in 1929, but the pattern it set remains: large houses, big windows and wide views of the water.
Homes near Manchester Harbor, along Route 127, or facing Kettle Island and House Island live with salt air and wind off Massachusetts Bay. Inland, near the Cedar Swamp Conservation Area or Powder House Hill, homes sit beside protected land. Either way, a window here has to work hard and still frame a good view.

Harvey Windows + Doors is a New England manufacturer based in Waltham, Massachusetts. See our Harvey windows in Massachusetts page for the whole line. Shingled houses often have odd openings, so our architectural and shaped windows and casement and awning windows are worth a look. For a deck that faces the ocean, consider sliding patio doors from Harvey or Gentek. To open a room onto a porch, French doors come in Harvey Majesty, with Andersen on request.
